The VNSNY CHOICE Adult Day Center is excited to start our first computer club for seniors. We’re lucky to find two exceptional volunteers that are generously donating their time to teach computers to our participants. Many of our participants live with families that have computers, but they don’t know how to use them. Learning computers at the center is opening up a whole new world for them! One of our teachers set up a group email for our seniors, so they’re able to communicate with each other outside the center. He’s also working with participants to identify their areas of interest, so he can tailor classes to them.
Ms. L. Googled her daughter and found articles she published. She didn’t know her daughter wrote articles and she couldn’t wait to read them – she was so proud! Some participants can’t wait to find people and places from their native countries. Others are looking forward to listening to music, getting news and weather, and playing games. We’re so excited to help our seniors get comfortable with computers and explore the internet – let the adventures begin!
My father is in his eighties and loves to use his computer to write stories and email his friends in the states. He also uses it to keep in touch with his family – children, grandchildren, he is also on Facebook. My mother has also mentioned that she would like to learn the computer as well. So computers have no age limit when it comes to learning and communicating.— calgary childcare / October 3rd, 2012 at 2:22 pm
I agree! So glad your parents are open to exploring the computer – it truly opens up the world for people of all ages!— Debbie Stricoff / October 10th, 2012 at 12:40 pm
