Nothing is more exciting and life changing than becoming a new mom. It is one of those life changing events that we will never forget. It is all good, right!!! Wrong, because it is so life changing, and that we often feel it should be natural to us, it becomes even more overwhelming. Being overwhelmed, tired, sore and hormonal makes for a bad mix. For those husbands/spouses that are living it, new research shows they are also exhibiting some of the same signs and symptoms of being overwhelmed and depressed. And therefore need the support and services to overcome and manage those feelings.
For most women the signs of depression in the post partum period are slow and progessive, and will often be ever present by the six week follow-up post partum MD visit. The peak presentation time is at four weeks postpartum. Some signs to watch for are:
