Are you ready to take a few easy steps to help prevent the fall of a loved one in your home?  According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention: Among older adults, falls are the leading cause of injury deaths. They are also the most common cause of nonfatal injuries and hospital admissions for trauma.

During each of my home visits, I check for any environmental hazards which may increase the risk of a fall. I have found that you don’t need to be a Mr.or Ms. Fix-It to correct some of the most common environmental hazards found in the home.   Here are some easy steps I share with older adults and their caregivers:

  1. Remove loose rugs, mats and electrical cords from walking areas.
  2. Remove clutter (boxes, bags or loose items ) from walking areas.
  3. Make sure there is adequate lighting in all rooms and stairwells
  4. Place a non skid mat in either the bath or tub

Give these easy steps a try and I would love to hear your feedback.
